Understanding The Opportunity Gap Featuring Prof. Robert Putnam

WLA member Delaware Community Foundation is taking a stand against the opportunity gap by getting the people of Wilmington and greater Delaware involved. Using an innovative, multifaceted approach, DCF is inspiring others to improve opportunities for lower-income residents through education and conversation.

Earlier in 2018, Delaware Community Foundation launched Building Opportunity in Delaware, an initiative to increase the impact of philanthropy on the most critical issues in Delaware. The goal of this work is to foster discussion and collaboration that will empower the local community to reduce the opportunity gap.

See below for upcoming opportunities to help facilitate open dialog and understand the opportunity gap many Delawareans face:

  • Host a book circles for the discussion of Prof. Robert Putnam’s book Our Kids: The American Dream in Crisis.
    • As a host, you will:
      • Recruit four or five friends to read the book.
      • Get together as a group and talk about the reading.
    • The DCF will send you:
      • A free book for each participant (up to a maximum of 10 per Circle), generously provided by Delaware Humanities.
      • Discussion guides to stimulate conversation.
